OUR HISTORY
Our camp is named in honour of Lewis Wheeler who was a Troop Leader prior to WWII where he was a member of "C" Co. of the Queen's Own Rifles. It was his wish that "...when I get rich, I am going to buy this spot and then the 26th will have a camp of their own."

Lewis was killed in action on April 25th, 1949 but his dream never died as he laid the foundation of what was to come.

In 1949, to celebrate the Silver Anniversary of the Hamilton 26th Scout Group, the leaders of the group purchased land on Peach (Kabakwa) Lake and established a camp where the younger Scouts could go camping and the senior scouts could go canoeing.
Founded by Harry Bryant and three Scouts who trekked to Macs Point on Lake Kabakwa., only 2 other cottages and another small boy’s camp existed at that time.

The camp, now in it’s 75th year, continues to flourish thanks to the ongoing dedication of generations of volunteers.
